Center School has a long tradition of participating in and supporting community service projects. The PTO Helping Hands Committee is building on that tradition. Our mission is to support various community outreach projects in which our students can be the primary volunteers while being supported by the adults of the Center School Community. We believe that having children be more active participants helps to make the community service more meaningful. One wonderful example of this mission is the school wide sandwich making for Loaves and Fishes Kitchen in Springfield and the Easthampton Community Center. Our students are “hands-on” in the making of the sandwiches.
Another project the students will be involved in is the holiday gift baskets. The students will once again be collecting holiday gifts for area children in need. Our fifth and fourth graders will be helping to wrap the gifts. The students in third, second, first and kindergarten will be decorating hands/mittens made out of paper that will be attached to the gift baskets.
The goal of the Helping Hands committee is to enrich our student’s school experience by providing opportunities for them to volunteer and actively give back to their community. We are excited to encourage these future volunteers and good citizens!
Please be on the lookout for information regarding future projects. If you have any ideas or questions please feel free to contact us.
